The name of the movie “My Octopus Teacher” does not help to sell it to prospective viewers. It seems like it might be for children. I am sure that the filmmaker insisted on this name, in spite of warnings from the studio.
If you watch it, you will understand why. He was undergoing a period of career burnout, and set out on a Thoreau-like journey to simplify things, return to his life-long love for the sea, and reconnect with the natural world.
The beauty is what he finds there. It is not limited to the octopus, but to paraphrase Charlotte of Charlotte’s Web, this is really “some octopus”. For children and adults.
